Saumu Bakari has been elected as the President of the Kwale County Students Association.
In addition to her new role, Saumu also serves as the Deputy President at Kenya Coast National Polytechnic (KCNP), making her a powerful voice for students both at the institutional and county level.
The Kwale County Students Association is a unifying body representing all students from Kwale County enrolled in tertiary institutions across the country. As President, Saumu is expected to drive initiatives that amplify student voices, promote educational development, and foster unity among learners from her county.
A Leader Recognized: Training at KISE, Nairobi
Saumu’s leadership journey continues to gain momentum. She recently completed an intensive five-day leadership training in Nairobi, organized by the Young People’s Network International (TYPNI) in partnership with ACSAP-K and the Office of the First Lady. The training, held at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), focused on transformational leadership, civic engagement, and community empowerment.

About ACSAP-K: Uniting Student Leaders Nationwide
The Association of County Students Association Presidents – Kenya (ACSAP-K) is a national umbrella body that brings together student leaders from all 47 counties. It focuses on nurturing young leaders through mentorship, policy engagement, and skills development.
One of ACSAP-K’s hallmark programs is the Transformational Leadership Skills Conversations, a cohort-based initiative that empowers student leaders with decision-making, governance, and community mobilization skills. As of May 2025, ACSAP-K has successfully launched its 9th cohort, a testament to its dedication to youth empowerment.
ACSAP-K also serves as a bridge between youth and national policymakers, fostering dialogue through partnerships with leaders such as Hon. Josses Kiptoo (MP, Emgwen Constituency), who actively participates in ACSAP-K events.
TYPNI: A Global Youth Network for Unity and Progress
Established in 2024, the Young People’s Network International (TYPNI) is a nonprofit organization on a mission to build a connected, empowered generation of youth. TYPNI focuses on leadership development, digital innovation, and community transformation.

Among TYPNI’s standout initiatives is Tubonge X Spaces, a virtual dialogue series co-hosted with ACSAP-K. These sessions provide young people with the opportunity to engage with leaders, share ideas, and gain insights into effective leadership. TYPNI also runs skill-based competitions like the UI/UX website design contest, offering creative youth a platform to innovate and thrive.
A Shared Vision for the Future
Together, ACSAP-K and TYPNI are building a national and global ecosystem of young change-makers. Through initiatives like Transformational Leadership Skills Conversations and Tubonge X Spaces, they are equipping youth with the tools to tackle local challenges and shape Kenya’s future.
