Barcelona under Hansi Flick boasts a squad rich in young talent, much of it nurtured through the club’s famed La Masia academy. However, with each season, the first team is becoming increasingly crowded, potentially forcing the club to consider offloading some players—many of whom are attracting significant interest from top European sides

According to Fichajes, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has identified Fermin Lopez as a key target. The Premier League champions are reportedly ready to make an offer in the region of €60 million to secure the 22-year-old Spanish midfielder.
Fermin stands out from the usual La Masia mold. Technically gifted and attack-minded, he thrives in advanced midfield roles and is known for his late runs into the box—a style reminiscent of a “shadow striker” in football parlance.

Since making his first-team debut under Xavi Hernandez, Fermin has grown in importance, particularly throughout the 2024/25 season under Flick. Despite his growing influence, competition for a starting spot at Barcelona remains fierce. Yet, breaking into Manchester City’s star-studded lineup would be just as challenging, potentially making a transfer more of a lateral move than a clear step forward.

A Unique Profile in Barcelona’s Squad

Fermin offers something different compared to other midfielders in the team. Even when compared to someone like Dani Olmo—his main competitor for the number 10 role—their playing styles are markedly distinct.

Ideally, Barcelona would resist selling Fermin Lopez. His profile is rare, and his potential is evident. However, given the club’s ongoing financial challenges, a significant offer from City could put sporting director Deco and club president Joan Laporta in a difficult position. Should the bid materialize, all eyes will be on how the Catalan giants respond.
